Sports Event Discovery, Booking and Management Platform

PlayPulse is a full-stack sports event discovery, booking and management platform designed to connect athletes, event organizers and sports enthusiasts in one interactive digital community. Users can browse upcoming sporting events, explore events by category, search events by name, sort them by date and view detailed event information before reserving a place. Registered users can create new events, manage the events they have published, update event information, remove events, review their personal bookings and cancel previously booked activities.
The platform also provides organizers with access to the participants who have booked their events, allowing them to monitor attendance and manage event engagement more effectively. A leaderboard, profile-management functionality, password recovery and protected user pages further improve the overall experience. Firebase handles frontend authentication, while Firebase Admin verifies authorization tokens on the server before protected event and booking operations are completed.
MongoDB stores event and booking information, and aggregation pipelines connect booking records with their related event and participant data. PlayPulse features a responsive interface enhanced with interactive sliders, animations, loading effects, confirmation dialogs and toast notifications. Its combination of event discovery and organizer-focused management tools makes it suitable for local sports communities, fitness groups, clubs and independent event organizers.
One of the main challenges in developing PlayPulse was synchronizing Firebase authentication between the frontend and backend. Public pages needed to remain accessible to all visitors, while event creation, event details, booking history and event-management operations had to be protected. The backend therefore verifies Firebase bearer tokens and checks that the authenticated email matches the email attached to protected requests.
Another significant challenge was managing the relationship between event records and booking records stored in separate MongoDB collections. The application needed to determine whether a user had already booked an event, retrieve all events booked by a specific user, display participants to event organizers and keep these records consistent when bookings or events were deleted. MongoDB aggregation pipelines were required to convert stored event identifiers, join related collections and return structured event information.
Developing a complete event lifecycle also introduced complexity because users can create, update, browse, search, sort, book and delete events through different protected and public routes. The interface had to provide immediate feedback while maintaining accurate application state after each operation. Additional challenges included implementing partial and case-insensitive event searching, category-based filtering, chronological sorting, profile management, responsive layouts and reusable UI behavior across desktop and mobile devices.
Future development of PlayPulse will focus on transforming the platform into a more complete sports-community ecosystem. Planned improvements include organizer and administrator dashboards, event-capacity controls, waiting lists, online registration fees, secure payment processing and digital booking confirmations. Location-based discovery and interactive maps could help users identify nearby events, while automated email, push and in-app notifications could remind participants about upcoming activities, cancellations or schedule changes.
The booking system could also be enhanced with QR-code check-in, attendance tracking and calendar integration. Additional plans include participant reviews, event ratings, organizer verification, team registration, tournament brackets, direct messaging and community discussion spaces. Advanced dashboards could provide organizers with booking trends, attendance statistics and participant-engagement analytics.
Technical improvements should include pagination, stricter server-side validation, database indexes, rate limiting, centralized error handling, automated testing, API documentation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and a more modular backend architecture. A Progressive Web Application and multilingual support could further improve accessibility for mobile users and regional sports
